McGinley Construction have just completed a major development adjacent to the new Luas extension in the Dublin Docklands area.
The project involved the construction of Retail Units, a Creche and 73 apartments. The consulting engineer was Shane Bergin of Gorman Bergin &Associates in Athenry and the mechanical services contractor was Joseph Harkin from Convoy in Donegal.
A district type heating system was selected with an outstation containing a plate heat exchanger and a heat meter being fitted within each unit. The central plant consists of 4 x MHG HT225 condensing gas boilers providing a total capacity of 900 kW. The exhaust flue system if manufactured in lightweight polypropylene with each 160 mm diameter pipe being taken from the basement up to roof level.
The apartments have also been fitted out with Domusa Sanit V 150 litre stainless steel calorifiers which were supplied by RVR. These unvented calorifiers feature high performance stainless steel coil type heat exchangers which provide rapid heat recovery. The RVR range of Foras domestic water pressurisation pumps were also selected with the P3-70/3 typically providing 25 litres per minute at 2.3 bar pressure. The unique RVR 300 litre cold water storage tank was installed within each apartment to meet the requirements of the Dublin City Council water bye-laws.
