Air Distribution System for Microwatt 90

Connections

The Microwatt 90 unit has four air connections. All of these are 160mm in diameter.

Fresh Air Intake and Exhaust Air Connections

The fresh air intake and exhaust air connections have a diameter of 160mm. These will be connected with a flexible duct to an air intake or exhaust air grille in the facade, soffit or roof. If the grille is to be mounted on a wall, a wall sleeve of 160mm diameter will be required.

The Fresh Air Intake and Exhaust Air grille should be separated by at least 1500mm to avoid recirculation of the exhaust air into the fresh air intake.

Extract Air and Supply Air Ducting

There will be an extract air grille in each wet room. The grille connection size is 125mm diameter. There will be an air supply grille in every other room. The supply air grille connection size is 80mm diameter.

Rigid Ducting

Where ducting is mounted in the heated space, uninsulated ducting may be used. There is a rigid ducting system available for this purpose. It is ideal where duct must be routed through the building within the building envelope e.g. from attic to lower levels. It may also be used in an unheated attic but should be insulated in this case.

Example of Rigid Duct System
Example of Rigid Duct System

The exhaust system will be comprised of 60 x 200 duct with transitions to the 125mm connections for the grilles. The supply air system will start with 60 x 200mm ducting close to the unit. This will be connected to either a 3 way or 6 way flat duct distribution plenum which provides balanced 40 x 100 mm flat duct connections to the supply air grilles.

All remaining rigid ducting to the supply air grilles will be completed in 40 x 100mm flat duct components.

Flexible Ducting

If the duct routes are routed in an un-heated space, it is preferrable to use the insulated flexible duct system. All of this material has 25mm of fibreglass insulation.

The exhaust system will be comprised of 125mm diameter duct with transitions to the 125mm connections for the grilles. The supply air system will start with 125mm ducting close to the unit. This will be connected to the specially designed 6 way distribution plenum which provides up to 6 balanced 80mm dia connections.
